The Breakdown of the Deal

The financing is a powerful combination of a €15 million equity round led by World Fund and €76 million in non-dilutive funding approved at the EU level under the European Chips Act. Notably, this puts QD in line to become the sole startup
awarded manufacturing funding under the act, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with established industrial giants like GlobalFoundries and Carl Zeiss.

Traditional semiconductor inspection tools often struggle to find buried defects in today’s highly complex 3D chip architectures. Quantum Diamonds addresses this multi-million-dollar yield challenge by leveraging atomic-scale defects in synthetic diamonds to detect magnetic fields with extreme precision.

Essentially, they have built a microscope that can “see” electricity flowing through chips. Their first commercial system, the QDm.1, enables non-destructive 3D current imaging at the nanoscale, pinpointing the precise location and depth of chip defects in a fraction of the time it takes traditional methods.

What’s Next for QD?

With deployments already live in the U.S. (Eurofins EAG Laboratories) and Taiwan (Integrated Service Technology), the company is scaling rapidly. QD plans to more than double its 70-person engineering team over the next 12 months and expects to open the first operational section of its new €152 million production facility in Munich later this year.

As World Fund’s Managing Partner Daria Saharova noted, QD has the potential to become “Europe’s next ASML”—and it’s all powered by the unique properties of synthetic diamonds.
