Plasmability, which has designed and built CVD diamond reactors in Austin since 2014, is now offering its IceMaker™ CVD diamond growth system through LattiSpec, the global marketplace for technology-grade diamond. The listing lets corporate R&D labs, national labs, and universities grow high-quality diamond themselves, using Plasmability’s equipment and the growth processes it developed to run on it. Diamond for AI data center thermal management is valued at $162.5 million this year, according to LattiSpec’s August 2026 market report.
Diamond moves heat better than almost any other material, and researchers are working on both bonding it to chips and growing it directly onto chips to pull that heat away. Engineers designing diamond into radar electronics and AI chips need lab-grown material made to specs that most of the world’s diamond-growing chambers cannot achieve. Those chambers were set up to grow gems, and growing for technology takes different equipment and different processes.
“Having both equipment design expertise and an internal diamond foundry facility allows us to fully support customers with both equipment and diamond material,” said Bill Holber, President and CTO of Plasmability.
Holber came to diamond from the semiconductor industry and holds more than 40 US patents. Plasmability designs and supports CVD systems for growing gem and electronic-quality diamond, and it grows its own material in Austin, so a lab that buys an IceMaker can also source diamond and process support from the same team. Plasmability was the first founding member of LattiSpec’s LGD in TECH Consortium in 2024. LattiSpec’s August report sizes the technology-grade diamond market at $1.65 billion in 2026 and expects it to reach $4.7 billion by 2036.
“Most labs that want to design diamond into a chip or a sensor buy material grown to someone else’s recipe,” said Marty Hurwitz, co-founder of LattiSpec. “With a reactor of their own, they can adjust the recipe and run it again on their own schedule. Bill’s team has been building that equipment in Austin for more than a decade.”
